North Dakota’s two-day youth pheasant season kicks off October 4–5, giving residents and nonresidents ages 15 and under the chance to hunt rooster pheasants statewide. Each youth must be accompanied by an adult, who cannot carry a firearm.
For families in Bismarck and surrounding areas, pheasant hunting isn’t just sport—it’s tradition. With access to prime fields and public lands across Burleigh and Morton counties, young hunters have opportunities close to home. Local businesses—from sporting goods shops to diners—also see a seasonal boost as families gear up for the hunt.
Jason Smith, Bismarck father of two: “This youth hunt is something I look forward to every year. It’s a chance to pass down skills I learned from my dad and spend quality time with my kids outdoors.”
The Oct. 4–5 youth pheasant season is more than a hunt—it’s about preserving North Dakota’s outdoor heritage. For Bismarck families, it’s an opportunity to share stories, create memories, and inspire the next generation of hunters.
