Summer winds down, but Bismarck's calendar doesn't. Three September events are worth planning around — and two of them land on the same weekend.
United Tribes International Powwow — Sept. 11–13
The 55th annual United Tribes International Powwow returns to Lone Star Arena, per the event's listings — one of the region's largest celebrations of Native American culture, with dancers and drum groups from across the country. If you've never been, this is the fall event people travel for; hotels fill up, so plan early.
Downtown Street Fair — Sept. 18–19
Downtown Bismarck's Street Fair lines the streets with arts, craft, and food vendors, according to Downtown Bismarck — Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. It's the kind of wander-with-a-lemonade event that makes for an easy family Saturday.
A 5K and half marathon at the Capitol — Sept. 19
Also on Street Fair Saturday: a 5K presented by Scheels starts at 7:30 a.m. at the North Dakota State Capitol, alongside a half marathon, per the race listings. Run in the morning, refuel at the fair in the afternoon — that's a Bismarck Saturday done right.
