The Bismarck Historic Preservation Commission has released free walking tour brochures of the Highland Acres Historic District, offering residents and visitors a chance to explore one of Bismarck’s most historically significant neighborhoods
Highland Acres, established after World War II, was a haven for returning veterans and their families. Recognized on the National Register of Historic Places, the district is celebrated for its architectural significance and role in shaping mid-century Bismarck. The new brochures highlight key buildings and provide maps for self-guided walking tours.
“This brochure was created to make Highland Acres’ history accessible to both residents and visitors. We encourage the community to celebrate and explore it.” -Lauren Oster, Community Development – Planning Division
The brochures are available free of charge at the City of Bismarck Community Development Department. This project was supported by the Historic Preservation Fund, the National Park Service, and the Department of the Interior, ensuring Highland Acres’ story continues to be shared for generations.
